Game rules
A single-zero wheel of 37 pockets, you against the house. These are the rules enforced by the JustPoker game engine; where the table and this page could ever disagree, the engine's published tests are the reference.
European roulette is played on a wheel of 37 pockets: the numbers 1 to 36, half red and half black, and a single green zero. You bet on where the ball will land — one number, a small group of neighbouring numbers on the layout, or a large group such as red, odd or a dozen — and a winning bet is paid at odds set by how many numbers it covers.
The payouts are the same on every bet: a win returns 36 times the stake divided by the numbers covered. The zero is what makes the house edge. It is on the wheel but outside every outside bet, so every bet wins a little less often than its payout would need to break even: over time the house keeps 1 in 37 of everything staked, whichever bets you choose.
Each winning number is drawn from a server seed committed in advance, your own client seed and a spin counter, and you can reproduce any past number on our Provably Fair page. There is no physical wheel: the spin on screen presents the number that was drawn.
Limits apply to each spot on the layout and to the whole spin. Amounts are whole cents; chips merge, so the limit is on the total on a spot, not on a single chip.

A bet over a limit is refused before the spin
Pick a chip value and tap the layout: a number, a line or corner between numbers, or an outside box. Chips on the same spot merge into one bet. Up to 160 spots may carry a bet on one spin.
Press Spin. Your bets are checked against the table limits, your balance and your limits, then staked, and the winning number is drawn from your seed pair, all in one step on our server.
Every bet is settled and paid at once and the spin is saved to your hand history. What follows on screen presents a result that is already recorded.
The wheel spins up, the ball runs the track, drops off a deflector and settles in the winning pocket. Choose Fast or Instant in the table settings, or press Space or tap the table to skip to the result.
The winning number is marked on the layout, losing chips are swept away and winning bets are paid beside the chips that won.
The layout clears for new bets. Rebet places the last spin's bets again, and Rebet & Spin also spins.
Keyboard shortcuts work whenever the table is waiting for bets.
Inside bets go on the numbers and the lines between them; outside bets go in the boxes around the grid. The lettered chips show where each example below is placed. A winning bet returns its stake plus the winnings.

A winning bet returns stake × 36 ÷ numbers covered, stake included. A straight covers one number and returns 36 times the stake (35 to 1); a split covers two and returns 18 times (17 to 1); an even-money bet covers eighteen and returns twice the stake.
Every count divides 36, so every return is a whole number of cents. A losing bet returns nothing.

Zero is green. It is not red or black, odd or even, low or high, and it is in no dozen and no column, so when the ball lands in zero every outside bet loses. Inside bets that cover zero — a straight on 0, a split with 1, 2 or 3, the two trios and the first four — are paid as usual. This table does not use la partage or en prison: an even-money bet is never half-returned or held over.
A bet on n numbers wins n times in 37 and then returns 36 ÷ n times its stake, so on average it returns 36/37 of what was staked. That is a house edge of 2.70% — a return to player of 97.30% — on every bet on the layout. No combination of bets and no betting system changes it, and our test suite checks it exactly for every kind of bet over all 37 numbers.

RTP = chance of winning × amount returned per unit staked = 36/37 for every row.
The 37 pockets run clockwise from zero in the standard European order, which alternates red and black all the way round and spreads low and high, odd and even numbers evenly:

Red: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 30, 32, 34, 36. Black: the other numbers from 1 to 36. Zero is green. The order on the wheel has no effect on the odds — every pocket is equally likely — but it is the order the animation uses, so the ball always stops in the right pocket under the marker at 12 o'clock.
Every winning number comes from three inputs: a server seed whose SHA-256 hash is shown to you before you play, your own client seed, and the nonce (a counter that goes up by one per round). It is computed with the same HMAC-SHA256 byte stream as our card shuffles:
clientSeed:nonce:0 as the message.The float has 232 equally likely values, which do not divide evenly by 37: seven numbers are hit by one more of those values than the other thirty. Every number's probability therefore differs from exactly 1/37 by less than one part in four billion — far too little to measure.

The verifier's roulette mode checks the hash commitment and recomputes the float and the number from the server seed, client seed and nonce.
